The court punished Holland Royal Shell Companies and BASF 1 billion 100 million Brazil Real because the two companies were in Brazil.

Comprehensive media reported on August 23rd, the Brazil court punished the Royal Dutch Shell PLC (Holland Shell Shell Companies) local branch, and Basf Inc (BASF SE), compensation and medical expenses.

A pollution incident occurred at an agricultural chemical plant in Paulinia, St Paul.


According to O Estado de Sao Paulo 21, the regional study near the Paulinia factory found that soil and groundwater contained heavy metals.

The Paulinia plant was established by the Shell Companies in the late 1970s, sold to Cyanamid. BASF in 1992 and later acquired by Cyanamid, and the Paulinia plant was closed in 2002.

The judgment includes all former employees of the three companies.

BASF and Shell Companies said they would appeal.

BASF said the decision was ridiculous because pollution was caused and recognized by Shell Companies.

The Shell Companies said there was no technical evidence to prove that any problem could harm workers' health.
