European Union

In June 3rd, the EU footwear Federation CEC announced that new anti-dumping measures should be introduced to reduce the export of leather shoes from Vietnam and China. Rafael Calvo, President of CEC, announced that the policy would mean implementing new anti-dumping cases instead of keeping old cases because the old anti-dumping measures will expire in October 2008. At the beginning of this year, the CEC plan extended the current measures, and the duration of the anti-dumping duty was extended by three years. However, the new anti-dumping measures will be applied for five years. Experts from Italy, Spain and Portugal have given full support to CEC in encouraging the European Commission to approve the application. Experts believe that the new anti-dumping policy will be approved by the European Commission, because this measure will be supported by 40% of the shoe companies in the EU.
