Greenspan, the former chairman of the Federal Reserve, said that if the negative interest rate was pursued for some time, it would eventually distort savings and investment.

"I don't want to say it's dangerous, but obviously it's not helpful," Greenspan said on Monday's Bloomberg radio and TV visit.

"Too low interest rates last too long, the biggest controversy is the distortion of real investment.

SWIFT report: RMB is the fifth largest payment currency in the world.

The global Interbank Financial Communications Association (SWIFT), based in Brussels, Belgium, released its latest report on its official website in February 29th, saying that the share of the RMB payment in the global market has increased in January, and is the fifth largest payment currency in the world.

According to the Xinhua News Agency reported on March 1st, data show that in January, the share of RMB in the global payment was 2.45%, a further increase from 2.31% in December last year.

Last November, the market share was 2.28%.

The report quotes Michael Moon, head of Asia Pacific regional head of payments in SWIFT, as saying that although China's economic growth has slowed down, the amount of payments made by the renminbi in Southeast Asian markets including Singapore, Thailand and Malaysia has increased significantly, indicating a deepening trade relationship between China and Southeast Asia.

According to the report, since January 2013, the renminbi has become the second largest currency in Malaysia.

Over the past year, the RMB payment between Malaysia and Mainland China and Hongkong has increased by 68%. If the reference period is three years, this increase will be as high as 214%.

The yuan began to replace the Canadian dollar and Australian dollar in November 2014, becoming the fifth largest payment currency in the world, followed by the US dollar, euro, pound sterling and Japanese yen.
