Alibaba President Michael Evans (J.Michael Evans) told the media in New Delhi: "we plan to enter the e-commerce market in India in 2016.

We have been searching for e-commerce opportunities in India. Under the background of "digital India", we are excited about entering the e-commerce market in India.

According to Evans, Alibaba is evaluating various opportunities for establishing an organized business while still looking for other opportunities.

Last Friday, Evans and K Guru Gowrappan, general manager of Alibaba group, met with Ravi Shankar Prasad, Minister of information and communication technology of India.

Evans said at the meeting that Alibaba plans to enter the India market, serving customers and consumers, and serving small businesses as it meets Alibaba's history and DNA.

"We have invested in India and e-commerce, and next year we will plan out specific strategies."

Evans said.

Alibaba has invested in Paytm (India third party payment platform) and Snapdeal (India local e-commerce platform).

Ravi Shankar Prasad, Minister of information and communication technology in India, said: "we hope Alibaba will enter India and hope that it will develop smoothly in India, including expanding e-commerce business. Alibaba is looking for this possibility.

I want to reiterate that Alibaba's entry into India and its development in India are completely free. "

Participants in the conference said Alibaba hopes to enter the India market in large numbers, especially in the e-commerce market.

Alibaba may go its own way or cooperate with other enterprises.

"I explained to Alibaba that e-commerce in India is booming, with a growth rate of over 60%," said Ravi Shankar Prasad, Minister of information and communications technology in India.

In November 2014, Ma Yun, founder of Alibaba, visited India for the first time. At that time, he had indicated that he would invest more in India and work with India entrepreneurs and India technical experts to improve relations between the two countries.
