The reduction and exemption directly brought about a significant increase in the import and export of textiles on both sides of the Strait, which is the most direct effect of ECFA at present.

According to the import and export trade statistics of Taiwan customs, the amount of Taiwan's textile exports to the mainland in the first two months of this year amounted to US $414 million, accounting for 22% of the total value of textile exports in Taiwan, representing an increase of over forty five percent over the same period last year.

Huang Weiji, Secretary General of Taiwan Textile Development Association, said that since the entry into force of ECFA, 136 textiles and 21 mainland textiles in Taiwan have enjoyed preferential tariff reductions since January 1st of this year.

Zhuang Fangrong, general manager of Taiwan Xu Rong Group, also pointed out that after tax relief, there is a lot of advantages and disadvantages between the two sides.

This year, some raw materials that Taiwan did not have in the past came from the mainland, such as linen, silk, silkworm chrysalis protein and so on. Taiwan textile and clothing will have more choices.

According to the trade of textile industry across the Taiwan Strait in the past years, Taiwan's textile exports to the mainland were mainly made up of cloth (65 of Textiles).

The products that Taiwan and ASEAN have exported to the mainland are not highly overlapping.
